of government structure:
- South Africa's bicameral parliament
is composed of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces.
- The National Assembly consists of no
more than 400 members.
- The National Council of Provinces
consists of 90 members.

Description
of electoral system:
- The president is indirectly elected
by members of the National Assembly for a five-year term.
- Members of the National Assembly are
directly elected from nine multi-member constituencies by a system of proportional
representation for five-year terms. 200 seats are chosen from national party lists and 200
seats are chosen from regional party lists.
- Members of the National Council of
Provinces (NCOP) are chosen by political parties from the nine provincial legislatures to
serve five-year terms. Each of the provinces is allotted 10 seats to the NCOP.
