Of Interest:
- President Jerry
RAWLINGS, who had been in power for 19 years, was banned from seeking
another term in office. The constitution restoring multiparty politics
passed in 1992 also imposed a two-term limit for the president.
- Since no candidate
received more than 50% of the vote in the first round, a second round
election was held between the top two candidates on December 28, 2000.
