TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNN) -- The Communist government in mainland China considers Taiwan a renegade province, and has made no bones about the fact that it wants the island to be re-incorporated.

But, although Taiwan and China share a cultural heritage, modern-day Taiwan has a political, social and economic identity noticeably different from what can be found in mainland China.

CNN's Mike Chinoy reports on how some Taiwan residents feel about their giant neighbor.
