BARCELONA, Spain (CNN) -- A Royal Air Maroc airliner, carrying 79 passengers and a crew of nine, was hijacked late Wednesday en route from Casablanca, Morocco, to Tunis, Tunisia, and was diverted to Barcelona, Spanish authorities said.
It was unclear how many hijackers were involved or what their motives were. The plane was on the runway in Barcelona early Thursday, awaiting permission to refuel and fly to Frankfurt, Germany, Spain's interior ministry said.
