UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- U.N. Secretary-General
Kofi Annan will appoint Prakash Shah as the U.N.'s special
representative for Iraq, CNN has learned.
Shah is a former Indian Ambassador to the United Nations.
The post of special representative to Iraq is new, but
similar positions exist for other troubled countries, such as
Afghanistan to Angola.
Shah had been mentioned at the United Nations as a likely
candidate for the post for more than a week.
