Ad canned after waterfall deaths in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (CNN) -- A television commercial for fruit juice has been pulled in New Zealand, after several people died jumping from the waterfall featured in the ad.

The ad shows rugby stars Marc Ellis and Matthew Ridge jumping off the Hunua Falls, south of Auckland, in pursuit of a can of fruit juice. Both emerge unscathed on TV, but a sign at the falls warns that at least 13 people have died attempting the jump.

Television New Zealand announced Monday night it would temporarily drop the juice commercial.

Frucor Beverages has refused comment on the ad's influence. It said two stunt men performed the 30-meter (yard) jump for the rugby players.

Reuters contributed to this report.
