PAARL, South Africa (CNN) -- Animal lovers Feruccio and
Claudia Ferucci have a veritable zoo in their suburban garden
-- Great Danes, an owl, crows and macaws.
Now they've added three more members to their menagerie --
young lion cubs.
For the Feruccis, who live in the small wine town of Paarl
just north of Cape Town, raising lion cubs is no novelty.
They have reared four others, including the father of the
newest cubs, who are named Peanut, Chippie and Sassie.
This trio thinks the two Great Danes are just like mom and
dad. They play with a tennis ball, roll on the grass and
occasionally give their more petite cousin, a domestic cat, a
nip or two.
The Feruccis say they plan to hand-raise and tame the cubs,
then find them appropriate homes. They recently put an ad in
the pet column of a newspaper -- between the headings for
Labrador and Maltese pups.
