Tributes on the Web
The death of Princess Diana has also generated an outpouring of grief, reflection and prayers on the Internet. Thousands of CNN Interactive readers have posted their thoughts on our message boards since Sunday's tragedy. Here is a sampling of the reaction.
"My heart goes out"
Karen Tullo Posted Saturday, August 30 11:38pm ET
My heart goes out to the royal family and the families of the victims. Now maybe the media might take a step back and see how they can destroy lives. A picture = death. Does it make sense. She is a person and like the rest of us deserves privacy. With all this the media must be surrounding Paris at this moment. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
"I can't believe this could happen"
Betty Greenawalt Posted Saturday, August 30 11:48pm ET
I'm watching CNN in tears. I can't believe that this could happen and could be
caused by photographers after a miserable picture. I hope that she isn't injured too seriously and does recover completely. There has been enough tragedy in her life and she doesn't deserve this. My sympathies to Dodi's family. I can't imagine how his father must feel. I've followed her life since she first entered into the news with her engagement and feel like she is a member of our family. I pray that she comes out of this as perfect as before.
"Rest"

"Gates of Heaven"
Donn and Phyllis Stroble Posted Sunday, August 31 12:25am ET
The gates of Heaven have opened and a princess has just walked in.
"No Royal did so much for her people"
C. Anderson Posted Thursday, September 4 3:12pm ET
As an avid follower and connoisseur of British royalty, it is apparent that not since the death of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria has there been such public display of grief for the loss of a member of the British royal family. And, likewise, there has not been a member of the royal family who has cared as much for her people (since Victoria) as the Princess of Wales did.
I can only hope that the Princes William and Harry can hold on to the integrity and compassion that their mother instilled in them. May they also realize just how much the world loved their mother and draw strength from that knowledge.
Hymn to A Princess
Anthony Irvine Posted Thursday, September 4 3:17pm ET
A light has gone out
of the world. And
the world is a lonely place.
Yet we see that
glowing face and wonder
how life is lost and sorrow done;
in the place where
there was light, in those
eyes that shone
for us, now we are the fabric
of a dream that has died,
The light that once
shone in so sweet a place
has died in a speechless way
the bright light, O
so quickly put out
that we are dumb
and rage in a secret place.
The light that was
our age, in a glowing face
shone for all to see.
But we are lost now
in a sorrowing place,
for the road has ended and He has called
her soul to sleep,
to bring down the clouded sky
upon her gentle grace.
The light that was
bright with grace has fallen.
And the world
is a lonely place.
