VILLAMIEL, Spain (CNN) -- Lonely hearts in a remote Spanish
town, where men outnumber women five-to-one, hit the jackpot
after their plight was made public in South America.
Offers of marriage from all over Brazil have flooded in to
the bachelors of Villamiel, a village near the Portuguese
border.
Previous efforts to change the imbalance of the sexes had
proved unsuccessful. For example, women from the entire
region were invited to attend a bullfight in Villamiel, but
few accepted the offer.
The men's luck changed when Brazil's TV Globo reported their
story. Villamiel has been inundated with amorous offers,
coming in faxes, phone calls and even videos.
Several romances have already bloomed and some weddings are
planned.
