PARIS (CNN) -- A three-day yeasty feast got under way
Wednesday as bakers concocted creations for the Fete du Pain,
a national Festival of Bread. Organizers expected the cooks
to use about 10 tons of dough.
At a temporary bakery set up in front of the Hotel de Ville,
visitors sampled classic French baguettes, croissants and
other bread varieties.
Top chefs gave children hands-on demonstrations with dough,
showing them the proper ways to knead, roll and pinch.
France's Bread Information Center and Ministry of Small and
Medium-Sized Enterprises have collaborated to sponsor
activities all over the country, promoting the tradition and
benefits of eating bread.
The festival culminates on St. Honore's Day, which is devoted
to the patron saint of bakers.
