MEXICO CITY (CNN) -- A Mexican army general has been jailed on charges that he tried to bribe a local official to ignore drug shipments in the northwestern state of Baja California.
The arrest of Brig. Gen. Alfredo Navarro Lara marks the second time in just over a month that a Mexican general has been arrested on drug charges.
Navarro Lara is accused of acting as an envoy for the Arellano Felix brothers, who allegedly head a cocaine-smuggling cartel based in Tijuana. The general allegedly threatened to kill the local official if he refused to accept $1 million a month in bribes.
