(CNN) -- You win some and you lose some in the world of world
record-setting.
In Australia, nearly 3,000 "boot scooters" had a good time
trying to break the world record for the largest simultaneous
dance, as they helped kick off an annual fund-raiser for the
Australian Red Cross Saturday.
About 300 dancers lined up outside the Sydney Opera House as
thousands of others gathered at locations across New South
Wales. They danced to the "Boot Scootin' Boogie," played by
several radio stations.
It was enough boot scootin' to make the Red Cross happy, but
not enough to break the record of 3,062.

But it was a different tune in Havana, Cuba, where some 2,000
musicians played 100 continuous hours of salsa music for the
dancing pleasure of about 1,000 couples.
The marathon that ended Thursday eclipsed the old record of
30 hours, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
The nonstop salsa was played at La Tropical, a Havana dance
hot spot.
