Poor Argentine family may have Michelangelo statue
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (CNN) -- An Argentine art expert
believes that a long-missing statue of the baby Saint John
has turned up in the hands of a poor Argentine family, 500
years after a 20-year-old Michelangelo sculpted it.
Professor Osvaldo Nessi believes Michelangelo's "Giovannino
Perduto," which vanished without a trace shortly after its
completion in 1495, traveled back and from between Italy and
France before arriving in Argentina in the 18th century. It
was inherited by its current owners.
The 1-foot (30-centimeter) statue is undergoing tests to
try to fix a date for its creation.
