TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Searchers hunted Friday for an Iranian
military plane that crashed in a mountainous region in
northeastern Iran. At least 80 people were aboard and there
was no news of survivors, Iran's government-run news media
said.
The C-130 transport plane crashed 39 km (24 miles) from the
city of Mashhad on Thursday, the official news agency IRNA
said. It said the pilot reported engine failure before the
control tower at Mashhad airport lost contact with the plane
at 6 p.m. (1430 GMT) Thursday.
Search teams had been sent but had not yet found wreckage of
the plane, which was flying to Mashhad from Dezful in
southwestern Iran, IRNA said.
