LONDON (CNN) -- Christie's International London has provided
the first glimpse of some of the 80 gowns that Princess Diana
will be auctioning off for charity. Proceeds of the June 25
sale in New York will go to AIDS and cancer-research
charities.
The Princess of Wales decided to sell the gowns after son
Prince William, 14, suggested that an auction might be a good
way to raise money for charity, said Christie's Chairman
Charles Hindlip.
Meanwhile, Diana filed a libel lawsuit Monday against a
London weekly that reported she would personally profit from
the sale. A statement from her lawyer said she planned to
claim unspecified damages. The Express, the newspaper being
sued, declined comment.
