BELGRADE, Yugoslavia (CNN) -- When Serbian authorities tried to muzzle the nation's last independent news outlets by cutting off airwaves and ignoring nationwide protests, it ignited a fight for freedom of expression -- a revolt carried out on the World Wide Web.
