LAGOS, Nigeria (CNN) -- A bomb packed with nails exploded
near a military bus Wednesday, wounding eight people,
including five Nigerian soldiers, police said.
It was the fourth attack since December on the military.
Similar blasts have been blamed by the police on opposition
groups, which deny those accusations.
Nigeria has been in crisis since a previous military ruler
in 1993 annulled elections that would have restored
democracy. Gen. Sani Abacha, who seized power in the
aftermath of the annulment, promises to hand over power to a
democratically elected president next year. Voter
registration for elections began Monday.
