VATICAN CITY (CNN) -- Pope John Paul II canceled his weekly
general audience Wednesday after coming down with the flu.
The pope did make an appearance at his window overlooking St.
Peter's Square, issuing greetings to the several thousand
people who had gathered to see him.
The pope's doctors have ordered several days of bed rest, and
the pope has canceled other meetings scheduled for this week.
John Paul missed Christmas Mass last year due to medical
problems, and has suffered from a series of illnesses in
recent years.
