Two strong quakes kill 38 in Iran

KHORASAN PROVINCE, Iran (CNN) -- Two earthquakes killed at
least 38 people in northeastern Iran's Khorasan province,
Iranian state television said Tuesday. It said the quakes,
one registering magnitude 5.4 and the other registering 6.1,
had their epicenter outside Bojnurd, about 360 miles (580 km)
northeast of Tehran.
In the Bojnurd area alone some 38 people were reported killed
and 90 injured by the quakes, which struck a wide region
along the border with Turkmenistan and Iran's Caspian coast
at 1:24 p.m. (0954 GMT) and 44 minutes later.
