LIMA, Peru (CNN) -- At least 20 people are dead and a dozen injured after a bus carrying people to a religious festival plunged off a dirt road lining a cliff.
The accident happened during a rainstorm Sunday between the central Andean towns of Hunacayo and Huaychula, about 120 miles east of Lima. Various reports claim the bus was traveling too fast, or had trouble with its brakes, before plummeting about 265 feet.
Officials say accidents are common on Peru's winding mountain roads. Many stretches have steep cliffs and no guard rail.
