CORINTH, Greece (CNN) -- At least five people died over the
weekend after heavy storms flooded southern Greece.
Damages were estimated to be in the millions of dollars, and
some towns -- including Corinth and parts of Athens -- lost
electricity and telephone service. Authorities shut down
shipping in the port of Pireaus.
In Corinth, flood waters pushed cars through the streets like
toys, leaving them piled atop one another. Flooding was
aggravated in Athens by a week-long garbage
collectors' strike. The garbage collectors said Monday they
would suspend the strike until later next month as a goodwill
gesture.
