MOSCOW (CNN) -- Russian President Boris Yeltsin will spend
at least another three days in the hospital and then will require
a three-week rehabilitation period, the head of the Kremlin
Medical Center said Friday.
Dr. Sergei Mironov also told a news briefing that "it is too
early now to speak about a resolute breakthrough in the
illness, but there are small objective signs of improvement
in Yeltsin's health."
Yeltsin was hospitalized Wednesday when doctors said they
detected "the first signs of pneumonia" in his left lung.
Mironov said the president was diagnosed with bronchitis on
Sunday and should have been hospitalized earlier, but
initially refused -- apparently because he believed it would
look bad to be readmitted to the hospital just two
weeks after returning to the Kremlin.
A medical source at the Central Clinical Hospital told the
Echo of Moscow radio station that the president had been
diagnosed with "pneumonia affecting both lungs of moderate
seriousness."
