SOFIA, Bulgaria (CNN) -- Bulgarian Prime Minster Zhan Videnov
resigned Saturday in the wake of criticisms of his handling
of the country's current economic crisis, the worst since the
end of communist rule in 1989.
The lev, Bulgaria's currency, has weakened tremendously
against the dollar, and the International Monetary Fund has
called for strict measure to restore economic discipline.
The Socialist Party is set to elect a new leader Sunday, and
Videnov has said he would not seek re-election.
