CALCUTTA, India (CNN) -- Doctors gave Mother Teresa a mild
electric shock Monday for the second time in six days to
correct her faltering heart. The treatment "was successful
and tolerated well," doctors treating the 86-year-old nun at
Calcutta's B.M. Birla Heart Research Center said in a
statement.
A mild electric shock was used last Wednesday to stabilize
her heartbeat but it began faltering again late Sunday and
doctors decided to repeat the procedure.
Mother Teresa is recovering from heart surgery last month,
her third operation in five years to clear blocked coronary
arteries. Her recovery has been complicated by her irregular
heartbeat as well as lung and kidney problems.
