JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- The 53 ministers of the
Organization of the Islamic Conference on Monday began their
annual week-long meeting, which will focus on peace and
economic development.
The ministers were expected to discuss Bosnia,
Afghanistan and ways to change Western stereotypes of
Islam. But the deadlocked Middle East peace process was
likely to dominate the discussions.
Indonesian President Suharto opened the conference, speaking
of what he called "Israel's acts of provocations" and
calling for support for the "heroic struggle" of the
Palestinians.
