SANTIAGO, Chile (CNN) -- With admirers and enemies planning street rallies at his every step, Cuban leader Fidel Castro will arrive in Chile on Saturday for a summit of leaders of Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
It will be Castro's first visit since 1971, when the late Marxist President Salvador Allende was at Chile's helm. The leaders of 21 countries are due to attend the Iberoamerican Summit, which starts on Sunday.
The summit's official theme is "Governability in an Efficient and Participative Democracy;" its aim, to eliminate poverty, corruption and get more people involved in the democratic system. So far, Castro's impending visit has captivated the Chilean public considerably more than the official subject of the summit.
