SRINAGAR, Jammu and Kashmir (CNN) -- The new chief minister
of India's Jammu and Kashmir state said Saturday that
separatist militants had 30 days to surrender their weapons
or face a renewed crackdown by security forces.
Minister Farooq Abdullah said at a news conference that he
hoped to bring the militants into the political mainstream
provided they first renounce violence.
Abdullah also said that he has reports that four Western
tourists captured by the separatists last year are still
alive, despite rumors to the contrary.
