ROME (CNN) -- Leaders across the political spectrum expressed
outrage Saturday at what is being called "Italy's Watergate."
Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi announced Friday he
had found a bugging device hidden in his office. Berlusconi,
head of the center-right opposition bloc, said a small radio
microphone was discovered behind his desk.
Italian law enforcement officials have used high-tech bugging
devices in a number of recent corruption investigations.
Berlusconi, who is standing trial for alleged bribes paid by
his business empire, said his lawyers told him such devices
were not allowed to be used against parliamentarians.
