Conference opens on child-sex commerce
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (CNN) -- UNICEF opened a five-day
conference Tuesday in Stockholm aimed at combatting the
sexual exploitation of children.
Some 1,000 delegates from 130 countries are expected at the
conference, which will look at such issues as child
pornography and child prostitution. UNICEF says that one
million children each year are forced into such activities.

New apartments approved in West Bank
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israel's Defense Minister Yitzhak
Mordechai has authorized 900 new apartments in the West Bank,
an Israeli newspaper reported Tuesday. The apartments, to be
built in the Kiryat Sefer settlement, will be reserved for
Orthodox Jews.
Palestinians bitterly oppose the new settlements in the West
Bank and Gaza Strip territories, which are considered
occupied by the Israelis under international law. The new
government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu favors
expansion of settlements in those areas.
Food poisoning outbreak on cruise ship
IRAKLION, Greece (CNN) -- A third of the passengers aboard
the cruise ship Costa Riviera were being treated for food
poisoning Tuesday in the Greek port city Iraklion on the
island of Crete.
Officials said none of the nearly 400 passengers -- including
15 children -- was in life-threatening condition. There was
no word on the cause of the outbreak.
The Costa Riviera was traveling from Bari, Italy, to the
Ionian Sea island Corfu and back to Bari with 1,300
passengers. The ship left Corfu on its return trip Monday.
