Report: Muslim rebels butcher 17 young men
ALGIERS, Algeria (CNN) -- Seventeen young men were killed by
Muslim guerrillas after the rebels stopped their passenger
bus and slashed their throats, an Algerian newspaper reported
Sunday.
A group of about 10 Muslim rebels armed with shotguns,
knives and hatchets forced the passenger bus to stop at a
fake roadblock at the Sidi Laadjal village, 190 miles (300
kilometers) south of Algiers, Thursday night.
The el Watan newspaper said 17 men between the ages of 17 and
25 years were shepherded off the bus and taken to nearby
bushes where their throats were slashed one by one. According
to the paper, rebels said the men were butchered for refusing
to join rebel ranks.
