LONDON (CNN) -- The Dalai Lama called Tuesday for a
concerted international effort to pressure China to improve
human rights in Tibet and to start negotiations with his
government in exile.
Addressing members of the British parliament, the 60-year-old
Tibetan spiritual and political leader reaffirmed his
commitment to non-violent resistance to Chinese authorities
in Tibet.
The Dalai Lama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, heads
a government in exile based at the northern Indian town of
Dharamsala, where more than 100,000 Tibetan refugees now
live.
China predicted the Dalai Lama's visit would harm relations
with Britain.
