BRISBANE, Australia (CNN) -- Prime Minister John Howard attended a rally on Queensland's Gold Coast south of Brisbane Sunday in support of his government's tough gun-control policies.
Howard has been taking a firm stand on gun reform following the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania nearly three months ago.
The crowd applauded as he arrived at a gathering organized by the Citizens' Rally Against Guns. Outside, however, members of the Firearms Owners' Association and other pro-gun groups staged a protest.
