

Ships of the U.S. Taiwan deployment

Web posted at: 7:10 a.m. EST (1210 GMT)(CNN) -- The following U.S. ships are being deployed to waters near China-Taiwan region to monitor China's war games, which are scheduled to continue through March 15:
-- The aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV-62) Home port: Yokosuka, Japan Crew: more than 5,000, including airwing Aircraft: more than 90, including about 55 combat aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornets, F-14 Tomcats, A-6E Intruders, EA-6B Prowlers, S-3A Vikings (anti- submarine), and E-2C Hawkeyes (early warning aircraft) Class: Forrestal (fossil-fuel powered) -- The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) Home port: Bremerton, Washington Crew: more than 5,200, including airwing Aircraft: more than 90, including about 55 combat aircraft (see flight wing for Independence above) Class: Nimitz (nuclear powered) -- The Aegis cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) Home port: Yokosuka, Japan Crew: 358 Weapons: Tomahawk cruise missile capability, harpoon and standard missiles, two 5 inch guns, two phalanx, six torpedo tubes. Class: Ticonderoga (state of the art electronic warfare ship) -- The Aegis cruiser USS Port Royal (CG-73) Home port: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Same specs as the Bunker Hill (Newest Aegis in the fleet - first deployment) Class: Ticonderoga -- The destroyer USS Oldendorf (DD-972) Home port: San Diego, California Crew: 339 Weapons: Tomahawk, harpoon, and Sea Sparrow missiles; one phalanx; two five inch guns; two triple torpedo tubes; and two 54 caliber guns Class: Spruance -- The destroyer USS Callaghan (DDG-994) Home port: San Diego, California Crew: 341 Weapons: Harpoon and standard missiles, two Phalanx, two five inch guns, two triple torpedo tubes Class: Kidd -- The destroyer USS Hewitt (DD-966) Home port: Yokosuka, Japan Crew: 339 Weapons: Tomahawk, harpoon and Sea Sparrow missiles, two phalanx; two five inch guns; two triple torpedo tubes Class: Spruance -- The frigate USS Ford (FFG-54) Home port: Long Beach, California Crew: 209 Weapons: Harpoon and standard missiles, one Phalanx, six torpedo tubes, one 76mm gun Class: Oliver Hazard Perry -- The frigate USS McClusky (FFG-41) Home port: Yokosuka, Japan Crew: 209 Weapons: Harpoon, standard missiles, one 76mm gun, one phalanx, six torpedo tubes Class: Oliver Hazard Perry -- The submarine USS Portsmouth (SSN-707) Home port of San Diego, California Crew: 133 Weapons: Tomahawk, harpoon missiles, 12 vertical launch missile tubes, four torpedo tubes, Mk-48 torpedoes Class: Los Angeles nuclear attack submarine -- The oiler USS Willamette (AO-180) Home port: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Crew: 219 Weapons: Two Phalanx weapons systems Class: Cimarron -- The ammunition ship USS Shasta (AE-33) Home port: Concord, California Crew: 407 Weapons: Two phalanx and four three-inch guns Class: Kilauea
