Tropical storm Jerry downgraded

Jerry

(CNN)--With winds of 35 mph, Jerry has been downgraded to a tropical depression. But Jerry is still enough of a storm to drench the Florida peninsula with more than a foot of rain in some places.

Jerry is located north of Tampa and is heading toward Georgia and South Carolina. Flood warnings are posted ahead of and behind the storm.

A tropical storm warning is posted for the Florida gulf coast and west to Pensacola. Some of the heaviest rain hit coastal communities between Palm Beach and Miami.

West Palm currently has had more than eight inches of rain, and behind Jerry lurk tropical storm Iris and hurricane Humberto.

Menendez bros.

VAN NUYS, California (CNN)-- Jury selection continued on Thursday in the second trial of Lyle and Erik Menendez. After excusing some of the jury pool for hardship reasons, Superior Court Judge Stanley Weisberg ordered 188 prospective jurors to return Friday, when they are expected to be questioned about pretrial publicity and preconceived notions about the brothers guilt or innocence.

Lyle, 27, and Erik 24, are charged with the shotgun slayings of their father Jose Menendez, and their mother Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home.

Jury selection is expected to last at least another month. Weisberg hopes to begin opening statements by the end of September or early October. He said he expects the trial to last about six months.
