President Clinton going to KosovoNovember 11, 1999 WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Clinton will make a brief stop in Kosovo on his upcoming trip to Europe, according to White House officials. The visit has been planned for some time, but White House officials had tried to keep it under wraps for security reasons. No details have been released.
The president is expected to meet with peacekeeping troops in Kosovo and will likely highlight the need for Serbs and ethnic Albanians to live in peace together, a favorite theme since the NATO air campaign ended last June. Clinton leaves Sunday for a trip that begins with the Organization for Security and Cooperation summit in Turkey. He also will make state visits to Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria and attend a conference in Florence, Italy. The quick stop in Kosovo will likely come near the end of Clinton's trip. White House Correspondent Chris Black and Reuters contributed to this report.
