(CNN) -- Several times this year people across the United States have been shocked by deadly shootings at workplaces, schools and religious buildings.

September 15 -- Alleged gunman Larry Gene Ashbrook, 47, shot and killed seven people and wounded seven others before taking his own life at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

August 10 -- Federal prosecutors said avowed white supremacist Buford Furrow Jr. , 37, fired randomly inside the s in Los Angeles, wounding three young boys, a teen-age girl and a 68-year-old woman. Furrow faces murder charges for the subsequent shooting of a Philippine-American postal worker.

August 5 -- Alan Miller, 34, allegedly shot two co-workers to death in Pelham, Alabama, and then drove to a former place of employment where a third person was shot and killed. Miller faces capital murder charges.

July 29 -- Mark Barton, 44, opens fire in two Atlanta brokerage offices, killing nine and wounding 13 before committing suicide. He killed his wife and two children prior to the shooting rampage.

July 4 -- White supremacist Benjamin Smith, 21, took his own life as police closed in. Before his suicide, two people were killed and nine others wounded during Smith's weekend shooting spree, where he targeted minorities and Jews in Indiana and Illinois.

May 20 -- A 15-year-old sophomore allegedly opens fire in Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia, wounding six classmates. T.J. Solomon faces trial as an adult and could be sentenced to up to 351 years in prison.

April 20 -- Dylan Klebold, 17, and Eric Harris, 18, carry out an assault on Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, killing 13 people and injuring 24 others, before taking their own lives.
