Los Lobos leader's wife still missing; family asks for helpAuthorities decide against charging half brotherOctober 28, 1999
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- The wife of Cesar Rosas, lead singer of the Grammy-winning band Los Lobos, is still missing, and her family is seeking the public's help in finding her. Sandra Rosas was first reported missing Saturday night from her home in Rowland Heights, California, east of Los Angeles. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Bailey said detectives have been in touch with the Los Angeles County district attorney's office about Sandra Rosas' half-brother, , who was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of kidnapping her. "Detectives have spoken to district attorney personnel and have decided not to file kidnapping charges at this time," Bailey said, without elaboration. Gomez is still being held on parole violation charges. Cousin makes plea to mediaEarlier, Joe Ornales, Rosas' cousin, asked members of the media for help. "If Sandy were here, you'd all be welcomed into her home. That's the kind of woman she is," he said. Missing van led to suspicion of foul playAuthorities suspected foul play after finding broken glass in the driveway of the home and Rosas' van missing. The van was later found, but Rosas was not in it. Sandra Rosas's husband, Cesar Rosas, is a singer-songwriter with Los Lobos, a band that was formed in East Los Angeles in 1973. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Gomez was arrested because one of Sandra Rosas' daughters contacted her mother on a cell phone Saturday night and got the impression she was being held against her will. Authorities said the daughter heard Gomez's voice in the background during that phone conversation. RELATED SITES: Los Lobos
