Announcement on Ramsey special prosecutor Wednesday
October 26, 1999
DENVER (CNN) -- Colorado Gov. Bill Owens plans to announce Wednesday whether a special prosecutor will be named to investigate the death of JonBenet Ramsey.
The governor's press office issued a statement Tuesday that said Owens will make an announcement at 1:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. ET) Wednesday.
Owens formed a task force to explore the possibility of a special prosecutor after a Boulder County grand jury investigating her death failed to indict anyone earlier this month for the killing.
Ramsey was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her parents' Boulder, Colorado, home on December 26, 1996.
Ramsey grand jury discharged; no indictments issued
