State Department official to visit China next monthOctober 23, 1999 WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Under Secretary of State Thomas Pickering is scheduled to visit China at the end of October. State Department Spokesman James Foley, in a written statement, said Saturday that Pickering will meet in Beijing with Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi and other officials from October 27 to October 29. Foley said the consultations will be on "strategic and bilateral issues." Prior to his visit to China, Pickering will travel to Ulan Bator, Mongolia, from October 26 to October 27. He will meet with President Bagabandi, Prime Minster Amarjargal and Foreign Minister Tuya to "reaffirm the U.S. commitment to this emerging democracy."
