School bus overturns, students not seriously hurt
September 29, 1999 SOUTH BLOOMFIELD, Ohio (CNN) -- A school bus rolled over on its top Wednesday morning, injuring at least 20 of the 38 students on board. None of the injuries were thought to be life-threatening. "There was nothing real major," said Linda Welsh of the Pickaway County Sheriff's Department. Emergency crews worked next to the upside-down bus to load students on stretchers. "We're getting about 15 people," said a spokeswoman for Children's Hospital in Columbus, which has a trauma center equipped for serious injuries. The accident occurred in Harrison Township, about 20 miles south of Columbus. Welsh said the school bus started going off the side of the road. The driver overcorrected and the bus "went off to the other side of the road, and rolled over," she said. The children on the bus attend Teays Valley Middle School. They were on a field trip to the Ohio Renaissance Festival in Wilmington. RELATED SITES: Children's Hospital: Columbus, Ohio, USA
