FORT WORTH, Texas (CNN) -- The family of Wedgwood Baptist Church shooter Larry Gene Ashbrook donated his body Tuesday to a state medical school for use in research and education.
The body has been taken to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, said family spokeswoman Julie Wilson.
Ashbrook's family will attend a private memorial service in Fort Worth on Wednesday evening, she said.
Police said Ashbrook killed seven people and wounded seven others before taking his own life last week.
Preliminary autopsy reports released Tuesday add little detail to what is already known. Most of Ashbrook's victims died of gunshot wounds to the head, and Ashbrook died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right temple.
Friends of the Ashbrook family described the family as distraught. In a statement released last week, the family wrote: "We know that there can never be a satisfactory explanation for this action. We only know that we are heartsick along with everyone in Fort Worth and the nation."
