Smoke odor forces jetliner to land in Cincinnati

September 18, 1999
Web posted at: 4:09 a.m. EDT (0809 GMT)

HEBRON, Kentucky (CNN) -- A Delta Airlines flight with 119 people on board made an emergency landing at the Cincinnati airport late Friday after its flight crew reported smelling smoke.

"There was the smell of smoke in the cabin and cockpit. The flight made a safe landing, and no one was injured," Delta spokesman Dan Lewis said. "The plane is being looked over to find the cause of the smell."

Delta Flight 2030 left Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport at 10:01 p.m. Friday, bound for New York's LaGuardia Airport. Passengers evacuated the plane when it returned to Cincinnati and were bused to the airport terminal.

The emergency landing came after the flight was delayed two hours due to weather conditions in New York.
