WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Whenever a shooting tragedy occurs in the United States, such as this week's slayings at a Fort Worth, Texas, church, the debate over gun control intensifies.
Political candidates on both sides of the spectrum and advocacy groups step up their rhetoric. And the media rush in, knowing ratings often rise on tragedy.
