ELWOOD, Illinois (CNN) -- An Amtrak train collided with a
pickup truck south of Chicago on Wednesday, killing two
people in the truck, the Will County Sheriff's Department
said.
The St. Louis-to-Chicago train, The Statehouse, had 103
passengers and a crew of five on board when the wreck
occurred. The train did not derail, and no one on board was
injured, Amtrak officials said.
The accident occurred at a crossing in Elwood, about 50 miles
south of Chicago.
"I have no information on how it happened, but if it's a
grade crossing, it's almost certain that the motor vehicle
was at fault," Amtrak spokesman Cliff Black said. "Trains
have the right of way at grade crossings."
The accident occurred about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, he said. The wreck was expected to delay the train about 90 minutes.
