New funding approved for JonBenet Ramsey grand jury
August 5, 1999 BOULDER, Colorado (CNN) -- Boulder County District Attorney Alex Hunter's office has been granted another $56,999 to fund the work of the grand jury looking into the death of 6-year- old JonBenet Ramsey. Hunter went before the Boulder County Commission on Thursday seeking the money to continue the grand jury's work through October 20, when its term ends. The commission unanimously approved the request. "I have confidence in the work that's being done, and that this is a reasonable funding request," Hunter said. To date, nearly $2 million has been spent on the investigation into the girl's death. Her beaten and strangled body was found in the basement of her family's home December 26, 1996. Parents John and Patsy Ramsey have vehemently denied involvement in the killing, though authorities have said they remain under "an umbrella of suspicion."
