PELHAM, Alabama (CNN) -- An Alabama man is expected to be arraigned Friday for allegedly shooting to death two people at his current employer's office and a third person at a business where he used to work.

The shootings took place Thursday in Pelham, Alabama, about 15 miles south of Birmingham. Alan Eugene Miller, 34, was arrested following a police chase and was later charged with capital murder, police said.

The bearded, 350-pound Miller is from Billingsley, Alabama, 35 miles south of the shooting sites.

If Miller is convicted of any of the three killings he could face the death penalty.

Two people were shot dead at Ferguson Enterprises, an air conditioning contractor, by a lone gunman who fled by car just before police arrived at 7:08 a.m. EDT.

Seven minutes later, police received another 911 call from Post Airgas, a welding equipment and supply company where another person had been shot and killed.

Pelham Police Chief Allan Wade said the description of the gunman in both shootings matched. Officers spotted the suspect's car and pursued him in a 6-mile chase southbound on I-65, pulled him over on the shoulder of the highway and took him into custody "after a brief scuffle" in which no one was seriously injured.

A handgun was found in the car, the police chief said.

Wade said Miller was an employee of Ferguson who previously worked for Post Airgas and apparently was headed for his home in Billingsley when captured.

There was no immediate word on a motive for the shootings.

The suspect's mother said the day started out like most days, with her saying goodbye to her son as he left for work.

"I walked out to the car or truck and gave him his uniform because it's the day to turn them in," said Barbara Miller. "I said to be sure to get me a paper, Babe, and be careful."

The victims were identified as Lee Holbrooks, 32, of Pelham and Christopher Yancy, 28, of Alabaster, Alabama, both employees of Ferguson, and Terry Jarvis, 39, of Montevallo, Alabama, an employee of Post Airgas.

The Alabama shootings occurred one week after an office shooting in neighboring Georgia.

Stock market day trader Mark Barton opened fire in two Atlanta brokerage firms, killing nine people. Barton, who had earlier bludgeoned his wife and two young children to death, killed himself in his van in an Atlanta suburb as police closed in on him.
