Boulder prosecutor seeks $57,000 more for Ramsey grand jury
August 4, 1999 BOULDER, Colorado (CNN) -- District Attorney Alex Hunter will go before the Boulder County Commission on Thursday to ask for an additional $57,000 to fund the grand jury looking into the death of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey. The money would fund the grand jury through the end of its term on October 20. Suzanne Laurion, spokeswoman for the district attorney's office, said the entire amount may not be needed, depending on when the grand jury actually wraps up its work. The grand jury began looking into the murder last September 15 and had generally been meeting twice a week to hear evidence and witnesses. But the panel has not convened since May 25. JonBenet, onetime "Little Miss Colorado," was found beaten and strangled December 26, 1996, in the basement of the family's million-dollar home. The girl's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, have since moved to Atlanta. They vehemently insist they had no part in their daughter's death, but Hunter has said they remain under an "umbrella of suspicion." To date, nearly $2 million has been spent in the investigation. No arrests have been made. RELATED STORIES: JonBenet Ramsey probe in limbo RELATED SITES: Boulder District Attorney
