More girls playing the field as soccer mania kicks in

MALIBU, California (CNN) -- Interest in youth soccer is taking off, and not just boys are booting the ball. Girls are turning out in high numbers as well, according to the American Youth Soccer Organization.

With the success of the U.S. women's soccer team to inspire them, an estimated 2.5 million women and girls are now playing the game in the United States.
