Small plane crashes in residential New JerseyMay 31, 1999 PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (CNN) -- Seven people were injured Sunday evening when a small plane crashed in a residential area of Piscataway, New Jersey. The single engine plane crashed into trees near the corner of Vera Street and Day Avenue, then fell back grazing the corner of a house causing minor damage. All five passengers on board were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Two of those passengers sustained serious burns. Two people on the ground were also injured. It is unclear where the flight originated from, according to Piscataway Police Sgt. George Maurer. The plane was based at Morristown Airport in New Jersey and was en route there when the crash occurred. Maurer could not confirm what caused the crash. Staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital would not comment on the crash victims' conditions. Piscataway is in Middlesex County, New Jersey about 50 miles south of New York City.
