WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Pentagon announced Friday it was activating 1,022 more Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve personnel to support the ongoing air campaign against Yugoslavia.
An additional 26 in-flight refueling tanker planes will also be sent, said Pentagon spokesman Ken Bacon.
The new call-up will bring the number of reservists activated for the war in Europe to nearly 5,500. The Pentagon has received presidential authorization to activate as many as 33,000 reservists for the Balkan conflict.
The personnel and KC-135 "Stratotanker" refueling planes will come from Air Force Reserve (AFR) or Air National Guard (ANG) units in four states, Bacon said.
- Fourteen planes and 514 personnel will come from the 108th Air Refueling Wing (ANG) at Wrightstown, New Jersey.
- Six planes and 238 personnel will come from the 101st Air Refueling Wing (ANG) in Bangor, Maine.
- Six planes and 238 personnel will come from the 190th Air Refueling Wing (ANG) in Topeka, Kansas.
- Four personnel will come from the 126th Air Refueling Wing (ANG) in Chicago.
- Twenty-eight personnel will come from the 931st Air Refueling Wing (AFR) in Wichita, Kansas.
No timetable was offered for the actual deployment of the reservists and planes.
